People will quit or drop to part time and they won't be replaced for months, leaving everyone scrambling to keep up with the increased workload, but turnover is high enough that there is never relief. Some of it is due to the nature of the department (some people are working with prescriptions that need to go out the same day they're received, and if you receive them at 5:00, you're screwed), but others will be forced to stay late just because there aren't enough employees. The job is supposed to be 9-5:30 M-F but this is simply not true for most of the building. They will also lie to you and tell you you HAVE to come in Saturday to "make up the hours" because they don't want you using PTO at all. If you have the audacity to use some of your meager PTO, management will be cold to you and talk about how they think you're lying about needing to call out behind your back, even if there's several inches of snow on the ground and the roads are a solid sheet of ice.
